Afternoon trail work, possible opening Tuesday if more snow overnight

We spent several hours this afternoon working on the Green and Blue-black ski trails, adding the 'protective carpet' under three spots where either there is a gravel cart path crossing or other problem area, and then moved 6 large sleds full of snow on top so even when these spots get thin later in the season, people's skis won't 'bottom out'.

We were able to pack down some of the existing trails also, but it is a mixed bag. Lots of trail sections that still have great snow coverage from the prior storms, but are unfortunately very bumpy and 'pot-holed' due to people and animals walking in the deeper snow/trails during the past couple warm days--and not enough new snow today to fill these areas in for a smooth ski trail. And the spots that had melted completely didn't have quite enough snow to allow us to safely pack trails without risking damage to the turf with the snowmobile. With more snow depth, we can pull out our TiddTech trail groomer and rectify these bumpy trails, but the thin trail sections are too thin to safely do that right now.

We will be back out on the trails first thing in the morning Tuesday, and if we pick up another inch or more overnight, we might be able to open up our Green and Blue-Black ski trails, plus do more trail maintenance on the other trails so that they will be ready to open later this winter as we continue to get more snow and have colder daily temps to help minimize the snow melt. We'll try to provide a trail update as soon as possible tomorrow, although the temperatures should be good for skiing all day Tuesday and into Wednesday, until we start to warm back up again. Think snow!
